Canvas gallery wraps from Costco

I just tried out the new Canvas gallery wrap printing option at Costco, and am very impressed with the quality and affordability. If you have images you've always wanted to display larger, this is a great option. From what I gather, the canvas prints are not actually printed in your local warehouse store, but rather fullfilled via a company in LA called "YPOC - Your photos on canvas™". It's worth noting that your Costco membership gives you substantial savings on printing. The 24x32 is lists for $134.95 at YPOC, but is only $79.99 thru Costco.

Canon 16-35 L II vs. Zeiss 18 vs. Canon 20-35 L vs. Canon 24-105 L

Updated on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at 3:19PM by Registered CommenterDave Brinda

My continuing quest for a replacement ultra wide angle for my Canon 5DmkII is focusing in on two contenders. The Canon 16-35mm L II and the Zeiss 18mm. The informal field test below compares these lenses against my current wide angles; an older Canon 20-35mm f/2.8 L, and a current 24-105mm f/4 IS L.

Zeiss 18mm f/3.5 vs. Zeiss 21mm f/2.8

This is a quick follow up to the previous Zeiss 18mm lens test. Since I am seriously considering replacing my Canon L series wide angle zooms with a Zeiss manual focus prime, I needed to compare the extremely similar 18mm f/3.5 and the 21mm f/2.8.
While returning the 18mm rental today, the great folks at Borrowlenses.com were cool enough to let me do a quick test shot out their front door comparing the 18mm with the 21mm.

Zeiss 18mm vs. Canon 20-35mm f/2.8 L vs. Canon 24-105mm f/4 L

I recently rented a Zeiss 18mm super wide angle, and wanted to do a quick informal 'field test' too see how it compared to my current collection of Canon L series wide angle zooms. I wanted to see for myself if the legendary Zeiss optics we're indeed superior to Canon's top of the line pro glass. If so, it might be time to unload the zooms and pick up one of these legendary manual focus primes. I will be posting sample shots shortly, but in the meantime, I wanted to share the results of my informal shootout.

Taiwan Sky Lantern Festival

This personal project was created from a collection of fun shots taken over the weekend during a business trip to Taiwan. All footage was shot on a Canon 5D mark II with a 50mm f/1.4 lens, and represents my first attempt at DSLR filmmaking. Special thanks to my good friends in Taiwan for taking me to the Sky Lantern Festival.
